Prairie Visit

So here's a shot of what it is actually going to look like in the space... The picture was taken at 4:30 pm which gives a good idea of what it is going to look like during show time (the pic. doesn't really do it justice- a lot prettier in person). I figured out that I will need 4 windows to fill the space (not 5-7 like I previously thought- thank goodness b/c one of the frames broke). Will need more rope. Lyuba and I met with Julie Anne today and talked to her about our concerns (prescribed burning destroying the view-- no chance b/c they already did it this year and don't do it more than once every 2-5 years, wine- no, we got free weekend access passes- YAY!, and will be able to give them flyers that they will put up!). We are going out again Saturday because we had a few problems with Lyuba's power thing and my view documentation (I'm going to draw on the glass this weekend to be more accurate). We also decided that my layer is the best layer to put food on b/c the food will make people stop and hang out in the space while looking out the windows (the cereal box theory)
have met with Max, Jack, & Katerie a second time. Max gave a good idea of having information panels like the one in the picture under each frame (the ones I make will probably not look exactly like this (may use some woodburning))

Reminder: bring flags and extension cords on Saturday!

Flags: will look better than expected b/c the grasses grew back! Also, we decided to put them in a single line that extends out as far as visible in a horizontal fashion.

yes the test (see actual scan in farrell's post below) did come out great - if you move the upper sheet up slightly, the "paynes prairie preserve state park" part sits right under the big title and it looks nice/appropriate

PRINTING: i think both lyers should be on one piece of paper so we could just fold them over.. and i'm not sure how we would be able to print them ourselves anyway - i am going to research some printing place options online (definitely cheaper than TC) when i sent my business cards to be printed i was really afraid about the quality of my image and if it was going to come out pixelated though (it came out fine) but i dunno.. this place has 100 double sided color postcards for 19.99$ and other "sales": http://www.overnightprints.com/main.php?A=pricing

Invitations

This is our test print of our invites-- VERY happy! I added the eyelets... oooooooh
Also found a cheap vellum order place $16 plus change for 100 sheets... that would be 200 flyers for 8 bucks a piece- if we printed them...
I think what we would get is the white vellum (it's the kind we got at Target Copy)- we could also print on regular, matte cardstock for the bottom layer (if that is cheaper (prob. not))- that would make them sturdier, but maybe less pretty.

farrell, the file i got from you was really small on my screen so i couldn't really use it (i think it needs to be more high res) and just scanned it in again, but there is a lot more crap on the woodburning now- what do you think? i'm not sure if i like the part where it fades out, but i don't know what to do about it and it might be ok.. i want to go to target copy some time today but i am waiting for slightly warmer biking weather haha ..let me know if you want the psd of this

SP change

Senior Project Change for good:
So I went to the White | Spier show last night and got some ideas on technique/layout for the layering thing. Got my window already (only 1 for now), paste wax, resin... working on imagery and such, but need to test out making flat planes with the resin and if I want to make it and then insert it or (what will probably be best) would be to just build a really flat plane that fits perfectly into the window, cover it with paste wax and pour the resin onto it. I'm going to do several tests with just resin and the wax to make sure it releases perfectly (probably will talk to the people at lowes- though they are never much help anyway).

my project

i don't know if i posted this before, but my senior show is the same time as the other show, april 27th, friday. i haven't talked to tom about the friday show, i will go see him tomorrow after class to see because the fine arts library closes on friday at 5. maybe i can have him open it for an hour and i'll stay in there and watch everything, or something like that. i also plan on making my own poster. i have one title in mind for my piece, eustress - stress that is healthy or gives one a feeling of fulfillment (Webster's New Millennium™ Dictionary of English, Preview Edition (v 0.9.6)) Distress is the most commonly-referred to type of stress, having negative implications, whereas eustress is a positive, desirable form of stress. Both can be equally taxing on the body, and are cumulative in nature. although my piece is about stress, it is also about letting go of stress, of making connections to my daily life and acknowledging it. i'm still unsure about what if i was to make this piece have the connotation of hanging out my stress and letting it go, or creating a piece that references humanity and the connections of words to that of life. i bought some sample fabrics for both pieces and will bring it in with words on them to see what you guys think.

I think for Electrasign we should do announcements instead of post cards because none of us are planning on mailing this to anyone. We have two examples here in the studio of 8.5 x 5.5 announcements. This is how I think we should setup our announcements:

Front Side:

Have "University of Florida School of art + art history" at the top right in the black area

Back Side:
Have all of our names, contact info, and a 2-3 sentence artist statement for each of us

For the senior show: I am going to have to have a real plan and a back up plan (in case the real plan doesn't work).
Real plan- mappy grass shapes that blow and interact in the wind (prob. about 8)
Backup plan- large scale vertical grass drawing that grows outward

-will be using the setup discussed above in both drawings (for sustainability) and will hopefully get each drawing up and running by the end of the week (at least the woodwork)

Constraints: I really need some TIME IN CLASS to get this moving-- I've done as much as possible outside of class and there simply isn't enough time
- will need to work in woodshop for a while
